Why did those who received federal bailout funds not have to show where the money would be spent?

'AIG, an embattled insurance giant that has received federal bailouts totaling $173 billion and is now paying $165 million in employee bonuses.'

This can not be true, but it is.

Back in day you tuned in just like you did when Ali fought Joe Frazier or George Forman. It was like Richard Petty racing. Hank Aaron was at the plate, Luis Tiant was on the mound against the Yankees. To see Larry Csonka rumble straight up the field.

Parent Alert: GPS Shoes

http://www.isaacdaniel.com

While the concept is brilliant the cost is high. It would seem wise to make this idea more affordable rather than limit the consumers who could afford this protection.

Isaac Daniel calls the tiny Global Positioning System chip he's embedded into a line of sneakers "peace of mind." A line of costing $325 to $350 for adult sneakers hit shelves next month. It promises to locate the wearer anywhere in the world with the press of a button. A children's line will be out this summer.

It's the latest implementation of satellite-based navigation into everyday life technology that can be found in everything from cell phones that help keep kids away from sexual predators to fitness watches that track heart rate and distance. Shoes aren't as easy to lose, unlike phones, watches and bracelets.

The sneakers work when the wearer presses a button on the shoe to activate the GPS. A wireless alert detailing the location is sent to a 24 hour monitoring service that costs $19.95 a month.

In some emergencies such as lost child or Alzheimer's patient, a parent, spouse or guardian can call the monitoring service, and operators can activate the GPS remotely and alert authorities if the caller can provide the correct password.

Once the button is pressed, the shoe will transmit information until the battery runs out.

It’s much easier to be happy for Coach Reilly this time. When the legendary Lakers of the 80's took a few from my Celtics, it wasn’t quite so easy.

Congratulations to the Miami Heat 2006 NBA World Champions!

Mark Cuban’s passion as a fan is pretty intense however he’s not just a fan, he’s an owner. Plain and simple! He’s not just a fan and until he sells his team he’ll never be just a fan.

Vindication: Shaq laid out another docket in the case of “who’s better for your team, Shaq or Kobe”. You had to have always known, more guys around the league can win with the big man than the big ego. When it comes to assembling a team, you have to have a big man. The only team to ever pull off not starting out with a big man was the team with the one and only. Yeah Kobe's great, we all know this however he's not and never will be MJ.

For the Lakers to let go of the most dominating big man to ever play the game, even at 80%, will prove to be a colossal mistake as history lays its trail in the NBA.

Living down the 5 in South OC as the Lakers let this happen, I just could not believe it. My first thought was Shaq wearing the Celtic green but that was obviously wishful thinking. While I'm happy for all the young and vetran players on this Heat team, many excellent stories, I could not be happier for Shaq and how pleased I am he has 4.

Finally the word is out on how difficult it is to cancel your AOL account. I remember a few years back when calling to cancel they gave me 3 months for free and told me to call them back if I still wanted to cancel, so I did and they offered another 2 or 3 months. Totally ridiculous! How could anyone believe their reports of subscribers to investors?

That employee, caught on tape and posted on that guys blog, was clearly taught to do exactly what he did and I would not be surprised if he gets a piece to keep quiet or he does sue AOL.

May 28, 2006 Barry Bonds goes past Babe Ruth with his 715th home run. It's an admirable accomplishment. Congratulations Barry.

On April 8, 1974 I was just a younger kid glued to the TV watching a baseball game that did not involve the Red Sox. When Hank Aaron hit 715 I watched in awe at this amazing individual.

Watching Bonds on Sports Center pass the Babe I was impressed by two things involving a group of people and two other individuals.

1st: As a Red Sox fan all of my life I know loyal fans. I tip my hat to the San Francisco Giants fans for their loyalty to their baseball player who seems to be disliked by so many others where ever his team goes.

2nd: As I reflect on Barry Bonds accomplishment I can not stop thinking about how much of a greater respect I have for Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth.

"That's what they said about cable TV."

A typical quote for someone touting that satellite radio will be a huge success when answering someone who says "it will never work".

How many TV stations did you have before cable? For most of us it was three and if you lived in an area that picked up UHF channels maybe another three more.

How many radio stations do you have without satellite radio? It's a very high number just about anywhere in the United States.

There's talk radio about sports, news, the market, religion and everything else on standard radio. Even ESPN is on AM radio.

The only thing different satellite radio seems to offer is cursing. The content is relatively the same without the bleep button.

Granted a subscription business model can do very well with only a few million subscribers. Are there a few million subscribers who listen to the radio that much willing to pay $9 to $13 per month? What is the average time someone listens to the radio? For most it's probably just during the commute to work and then back home.

The satellite radio companies are selling a boom box. Any radio in your house can pick up your satellite signal. When you are driving down the road and you see someone with satellite radio in their car, you can pick it up on your car radio as long as you are with in distance. Imagine traveling in bumper to bumper traffic going into Los Angeles as so many unfortunate people do, turn your radio to 88.1 - 88.9 FM and listen to satellite radio. Someone in that heap more than likely has satellite radio, especially in LA...

The only comparison to cable TV is only the fact that they are subscription business models. Cable TV was an exciting change, what is the excitement of satellite radio?

Baseball

In Anaheim, long before the Angels were the Los Angels Angels of Anaheim Orange County California, I remember watching the Angels play the Minnesota Twins. This guy in right field who had this cannon for an arm, threw this laser nailing a base runner going to third base with the ball on the fly. An absolute strike! I'll never forget that and that's all I can ever remember when I think of Kirby Puckett.

Chinese authorities had locked down the village in eastern Anhui province where a 24-year-old pregnant woman died of bird flu last week, becoming the nation's first confirmed human fatality from the virus.

Scientists may have found a gene for fear . A gene that controls production of a protein in the region of the brain linked with fearful responses.
Their finding, published on Thursday, could lead to new treatments for mental disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder and generalized anxiety.
The gene, known as stathmin or oncoprotein 18, is highly concentrated in the amygdala, a region of the brain associated with fear and anxiety, the researchers report in Thursday's issue of the journal Cell.

Mr. Greenspan gets all the word play on the quote "quite the conundrum" however Newman clearly said it first.

There's electricity in air. In the state of Florida it is now legal for a civilian to purchase a stun gun. Now those who don a police uniform, legal for civilians to wear in the state of Florida, now have an added accessory. Just when you thought the state of Florida could not be more brilliant.

Several state transportation agencies, including those in Maryland and Virginia, are beginning to test technology that allows them to monitor traffic by tracking cell phone signals and mapping them against road grids. The new traffic system can monitor several hundred thousand cell phones at once. The phones only need to be turned on.
If this technology is ever became available to auto insurance companies they could know your driving habits including how fast you drive.
